Vesta Sherman

Vesta Jean Sherman, age 81, of Grand Island, Florida and formerly of North Star, Michigan died Thursday, July 8th, 2010 at her daughters residence in Battle Creek, MI. Funeral Services will be held, at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel on Tuesday, July 13th at 11:00 A.M. Mr. Keith Wise will officiate and burial will take place at North Star Cemetery in North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-5 PM. and Monday, July 12, 2010 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel.

Vesta "Jean" was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on October 6, 1928, the daughter of Fred and Leora (Hattus) Flegel. She graduated from Ithaca High School. She was married to Francis "Whitey" Sherman on May 28, 1946. He passed away July 14, 1984. Jean resided mostly in North Star and in Florida. She enjoyed fishing with her husband, crossword puzzles, bingo, gambling excursions and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Robert and Sharon Sherman of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter Terri and Lyle Vought of Battle Creek, Michigan; daughter Laureen and Jeff Bobzien of Texas; son Douglas and Vi Sherman of Chelsea, Michigan; 9 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, 2 brothers Mervin and Valerie Flegel of Ithaca, Michigan; and Fred Flegel, Jr. of Perrinton, Michigan. She was predeceased by her husband, Whitey Sherman, daughter, Janie Helen, two grandchildren, Jamie Bloss and Thad Sherman, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
