Vincent P. Caudy, age 81, passed away Sunday, April 11, 2010 in Port Charlotte, Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns, MI on Saturday, April 17, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy will officiate and burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. There will be no visitation.
Vincent was born in St. Johns, Michigan on July 26, 1928, the son of Alphonse and Agnes (Kuchar) Caudy. Vincent married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Joan Davis on June 7, 1952.
He served his country in the US Navy during WWII from 1946 to 1949 and re-enlisted as a medic when the Korean war broke out in 1949 serving until his discharge in 1952. Later in life he worked tirelessly to help other Veterans achieve benefits they were due. His caring and generous nature will fondly be remembered by everyone whose life he enriched.
Vincent worked at Midland Ross, Redmonds in Owosso, ITT Hancock in Roscommon and Kysor of Cadillac, before retiring and moving to Florida.
Throughout his lifetime he was blessed with a close family that he cherished beyond words. To Vince, family was everything. Everyone who knew Vince will miss his upbeat personality, his ever present smile and his infamous accordion music.
He was a self-taught accomplished accordion player, entertaining family members and numerous audiences on many occasions. A high priority for Vince was to put together the yearly Caudy-Kuchar reunion held in St. Johns
He is survived by two daughters; Gail and Tim Schwartz of Traverse City, MI, and Lynn and Doug Van Epps of Dimondale, MI. Grandchildren include Stephanie and Eric McLean of Traverse City, MI, Julie and Armann Fenger of Decatur, GA, Rachael Porter of Los Angeles, CA, and Lindsay and Carter Pavey of Las Vegas, NV, Heather Schwartz, Ann Arbor, MI, Matthew and Jennifer Schwartz, F.E. Cheyenne, WY, and Luke and Anne Schwartz, Traverse City, MI. Great-grandchildren include: Avery and Madilyn McLean, Davis Fenger, Alexander, August, Aliza, Emily, and Morgan Schwartz. Sisters; Rose Wilson, Agnes Brown, Therese VanWormer, Margarete Klein, brother Joseph Caudy and many nieces and nephews.
He is also leaves behind his loving companion of 12 years, Gloria Whisonant.
He was predeceased by his parents, wife Phyllis, two sisters, and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that memorials be made in his name to The American Czech and Slovak Club of Southwest, Florida at 308 E. Alba Street, Venice, Florida 34285. . The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel Elsie, Michigan.
