Virginia Ruth McLeod, age 86, of Elsie, MI and Kansas City, MO passed away Thursday, May 12, 2011 at her home in Elsie.

There will be a Memorial Open House on Sunday, May 15, 2011, at 145 W. Maple St., Elsie, MI from 1 a�" 4 P.M. A Memorial will be held at a later date in Kansas City, MO.

Virginia was born in Elsie, Michigan on June 13, 1924, the daughter of Melvin M. and Dorothy H. (Woodward) Buck. She graduated from Elsie High School in 1942. In August 1946 she married Richard E. McLeod and he preceded her in death on April 11, 1986. Virginia was a world-traveling Army wife and homemaker. She also worked for the General Services Administration in the accounting department. She loved traveling, arts and crafts, including quilting, painting, sewing/tailoring and cake decorating. Not only was she an avid reader but she also wrote a book of her memoirs, "I Never Rode a Camel Across the Desert". Virginia also kept up with current events every year of her life and was never lacking in opinion about them.

Virginia is survived by her dearest companion Robert Oberlin of Elsie, MI, son Richard E. and Sandra McLeod of Weston, MO, 2 daughters; Susan and Bob Tripp of Parkville, MO, Catherine McLeod of North Kansas City, MO, 4 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brother Melvin M. and Ann Buck of Dousman, WI, sister Barbara Jean and Frank Dudash of Elsie, MI. and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Clarence Raymond Buck.
