Walter J. Archer, age 89, passed away on March 29, 2012 in Lansing, Michigan. Walter was born October 10, 1922 in Chapin, the son of Fred and Edith (Kellogg) Archer. He married Bonnie Lou Thompson in June of 1946 and she preceded him in death in January of 1983. Walt served in WWII in the United States Army, 136th Infantry 33rd Division in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from July 10, 1943 to December 25, 1945. He received 3 Bronze Battle Stars, with Liberation Ribbon and Good Conduct medal and 5 overseas service bars. Walt was also a truck driver after WWII and retired from Motor Wheel in 1981 after 38 years of service. He was a longtime member of the Lake Eagles and the Lake Rod and Gun Club, he was a loving, kind man and wonderful father and grandfather who gave of himself and helped others whenever anyone was in need.
Walt is survived by his daughters, Connie Rey, Jodi (George) Baker, and granddaughter, Bonnie Baker. Also preceding him in death are his son, Walter James Archer II, son in law, Perry Rey, his parents, and brother, Ernest Archer.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday April 2, 2012 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, with Pastor Hale officiating, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from Noon until 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorial contributions in Walter's memory to VFW of Lake, MI or any Humane Society. Military Services provided by VFW Post #4113. The family was served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.
