Walter John "Walt" Egan

     Walter "Walt" John Egan, age 74, of Greenville, MI, formerly of Ithaca, MI, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Spectrum Health Systems- Fred and Lena Meijer Heart Center in Grand Rapids, MI, surrounded by his loving family.  Walt was given Last Rites by Father John at the hospital.

     A Celebration of Life will be held at the American Legion Post 101, 1320 W. Washington Street, Greenville, MI from 1:00-5:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 5, 2023.

     Walt was born in Wyandotte, Michigan on July 23, 1948, the son of Walter Junior and Jeanne Ann (Arszyla) Egan.  Walt married Janice Sorrell on December 31, 1983, at their home in Ithaca.

      Walt spent a majority of his life growing up with his mother and her family in Bridgeport and Milford, Connecticut. Walt was a competitive water skier and he also enjoyed downhill skiing.  Walt spent a few years in Florida before moving to Ithaca, Michigan to work as a store manager for Del Food in 1980.  He enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing cards and watching movies.  There wasn't a movie he wasn't familiar with, except maybe love stories.  Walt golfed and bowled on leagues in Ithaca for many years.  He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and an avid Michigan State Basketball fan. Walt made new friends wherever he traveled. He was a member of the American Legion/Sons of American Legion. 

     He is survived by his wife Janice Egan of Greenville, MI; his daughter Leigh and Kirk Olson of Ithaca, MI; his daughter Carla and James Patrick of Weidman, MI; his grandchildren Eric Douglas (Lacy) Macha, Joshua Louis (Catie) Macha, Dane Walter (Sabrina) Macha, Katie Ann (Brandon) Cooper, and Jacob Edward Patrick; one great-grandchild Easton James Patrick; his grand-dog Jackson; his aunt Helen Arszyla of Connecticut; his mother-in-law Frances Sorrell of Carson City, MI; one sister-in-law Connie and Larry Spiece of Carson City, MI; one brother-in-law Bruce Sorrell of Houston, TX; two nephews: Nick and Brennen Spiece; his great-nephews: Noah, Isaac and Levi Spiece; many cousins and their children; special family friends Dave and Lauren Heinz and their children: Savannah, Emerson, and Sawyer.  Walt was preceded in death by his parents, his father passed away on June 16, 1948 prior to Walt's birth, his mother passed away on July 15, 2010, his father-in-law Irvin Lee Sorrell and sister-in-law Martha Sorrell.
