Walter Kochan

Walter Lester "Butch" Kochan, age 61, of Lupton, MI, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019, at his brothers home surrounded by his family.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI,  on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at 11:00 A.M.  Burial will take place at Oak Plain Cemetery, Perry, MI.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19, 2019 from 6-8 P.M. and also on Friday, September 20, 2019 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie, MI.

Walter was born in Mount Clemens, MI on March 11, 1958, the son of Lester Kochan and Floye Carolyn (Bratton) Erickson.  He graduated from Ashley High School with the class of 1978

Butch was a member of Iron Workers Local 25 and spent his life as a Rigger.  He moved up north from Marion Springs in November of 2018 to Lupton, he really enjoyed time spent there.  Spending time with his family and friends was most important to him.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and his Ford he bought to match his brothers and sister.  He loved his left handed cigarettes and he had a huge love for food, eating and cooking. Butch also enjoyed music, collecting knives and NASCAR.

He is survived by his daughter Deena and James Coleman of New York; siblings: Bud and Lori Kochan of Rose City, MI; Bob and Lori Kochan of Ovid, MI; Doug and Sue Kochan of Owosso, MI; Tina and Terry Wright of Owosso, MI; aunt Helen Finch of Montrose, MI; and cousin Kimberly Honican of Detroit, MI.  He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Kenny, Michael, Tara, Chasity, Catrina, Brandy, Bobbi, Kimberly, Robert, and many great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eddie and Carolyn, his grandma Lucille (Mo) Bratton, and cousins: Shannon and Toni.
