Warren was born in Fulton Township, Michigan on September 10, 1926, the son of Clarence and L. Ruby (Baker) Guernsey. He grew up just north of Perrinton on the Baker farm on Garfield Rd. At the age of 7 in 1933 their farm house burned down; they moved into the village of Perrinton. Warren joined the Navy in 1944 and was a diesel engine mechanic on the ship. After World War II he came back to Perrinton and worked with his father in the auto repair business.

Warren married Helen Elizabeth Hempsted of Pompeii, on October 27, 1946 in Perry Michigan at her grandparent's home. His best friend, Theron Richards, stood up as best man.

Warren's hobbies in his early years were hunting and fishing. He and his buddies hunting and fishing escapades were usually good for many laughs.

In 1963 Warren bought Guernsey's Garage in Perrinton from his father and eliminated the car repair part of the business. He then changed the name to Guernsey Auto Supply, enlarged the auto supply inventory in Perrinton and sold auto parts on the road throughout the Gratiot County area. He truly enjoyed being a salesman. He was a true believer in the village of Perrinton. He retired in 1990. Warren loved the game of golf. He played golf for many years with his friends and never tired of telling his stories and jokes. After retiring he enjoyed his fall golf trips in northern Michigan with his brother, Ve Guernsey, Martin Richards, Jim Sali & Fred Flegel.

Warren enjoyed spending time and traveling with Helen and his grandchildren throughout the years in his motor home. In the later years he enjoyed his great-grandchildren a lot.
