Warren Mates

Warren C. " Butch" Mates, age 68, of Ithaca, Michigan passed away Friday, February 4, 2011 at Masonic Pathways, Alma, Michigan.

A Memorial Service will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca Chapel on Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 P.M., Pastor Brian Wickes will officiate. Visitation will be at 11 am until time of service.

Warren was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on July 14, 1942, the son of Warren and Anna (Johns) Mates Sr. He lived in Grand Rapids until he graduated from high school then he moved to the Ithaca area. He was married to Mary Galloway who passed away in 1981. On November 10, 1984 he married Sue Droste at St. Louis, Michigan. He drove truck for 32 years and retired from Anchor Motor Freight in Lansing, Michigan. Butch enjoyed hunting and fishing especially in Canada, he also enjoyed tractor pulling and planting a big garden.

Survivors include his wife Sue Mates of Ithaca, MI, 2 daughters; Laurie and Tom Matt of Standish, MI, Lyndsay Mates of Lansing, MI, 3 sons; Michael and Suzie Mates of Sumner, MI, Matthew Mates of Dewitt, MI, Joshua Mates of Ithaca, MI, 2 granddaughters; Lacie & Mary Beth, father & step mother Warren & Pearl Mates of Grand Rapids, 1 sister Mitzi Mates of Wyoming, MI, and niece Jeanna Smith. He predeceased by his mother, Anna and 1 sister, Gloria.
