Wayne Burton Shoen, age 85, of Ithaca, MI, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Woodland Hospice House, Mt. Pleasant, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 11, 2023. Burial will take place at Fritz Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 5-8 P.M. and also on Thursday the hour prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.
Wayne was born in Lansing, Michigan on April 8, 1938, the son of Palmer Carl and Irene Pearl (White) Shoen. He graduated from Stanton High School, with the class of 1957. On October 25, 1958, Wayne married Thelma Doris Evans at Mud Lake Church, Sheridan, MI. They were blessed with forty-nine years of marriage, prior to her passing on December 13, 2007.
Wayne worked in maintenance with Isabella bank in Ithaca for more than twenty years. He also worked at Ric's Food Center as produce manager for many years. Wayne worked in retail and with people his entire life. He loved the connections made with people while helping them find what they were looking for. He took pride in redoing furniture and turning garage sale finds into treasures. Wayne painted many interiors & exteriors of homes and also refinished wood work in old homes. He loved maintaining his flower garden and he had quite the green thumb. Wayne enjoyed supporting his grandchildren in their sporting events and dance recitals. He loved spending time with his grandkids and he was very proud to have met and held his first great-granddaughter.
He is survived by his children: Keven (Kandy) Shoen of Sheridan, MI; Brian (Cami) Shoen of Ithaca, MI; and Julie Pierce of Alma, MI; three grandchildren: Brad (Wendy and Sydney) Shoen, Jacob Pierce (Taylor Teegardin), and Owen Pierce, and great-granddaughter Maren Pierce. Wayne was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, son Brad Allen Shoen, siblings: Thelma (Fred) Craig, Wesley (Margaret) Shoen, and Gerald (Patricia) Shoen.
