Wayne Lamont Sutliff, age 83, of Henderson, MI, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Hospice House of Shiawassee County, Owosso, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Duplain Church of Christ, St. Johns, MI, at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, January 12, 2024, with Pastor Dan Cameron officiating. Burial will take place at Duplain Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI, at a later date. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, MI. Visitation will also be held on Friday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
Wayne was born in Rush Township, Michigan on October 2, 1940, the son RD and Irene (Thompson) Sutliff. He graduated from Chesaning High School with the class of 1959. Wayne married Cheryl Kay Flegel on April 29, 1967, at Duplain Church of Christ.
Wayne drilled wells for many years and was a lifelong hobby farmer. He went on to work at General Motors and retired in 2002. After retirement he enjoyed taking friends and family to appointments or anywhere they needed to go. He loved gardening, raising chickens, hogs, steers, and giving away eggs to people in the community. Wayne enjoyed being around people and will be remembered as a caring and giving person. Most of all he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Wayne was a lifetime member of the Duplain Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl Sutliff of Henderson, MI; four sons: Steven and Barb Sutliff of St. Charles, MI; David Sutliff and Ken Neal of Mesa, AZ; Brad Sutliff of Elsie, MI; Jeremi and Carrie Sutliff of Ovid, MI; his sister Dianne Apsey of Corunna, MI; sisters-in-law: Delores Sutliff, Betty Sutliff, and Karen Schaefer; brother-in-law Mike Wiley; nine grandkids: Anthony and Sydney Sutliff, Alison Sutliff (Michael), Keaghan and Lacey Sutliff, Brendan Sutliff (fiancé Liza), Karscen and Catie Sutliff, Colton Sutliff (Madilyn), KayLee Sutliff (Hayden), Madison Sutliff (fiancé Logan), and Logan Sutliff (Katherine); and four great-grandchildren: Braxton, Elliott, Harper, Korra, and Brady on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law Lyle and Aletha Flegel, siblings: Lee and Bernice Sutliff, Bob and Sherrill Sutliff, Vere, Marion, Donna, and Linda and brothers-in-law: Dennis Flegel, James Apsey, and James Weber and close family friends Dennis and Eydie Schroeder.
