Wendell Clayton Holt, age 82, of Elwell, MI died Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at his home.
Funeral Services will be held at Seville Community Church of God on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 3:00 P.M., with Pastor George Showers and Pastor Brian Wickes officiating. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 4 -7 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis, MI and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery Springfield, Illinois.
Wendell was born in Springfield, IL on January 27, 1931, the son of William C. and Florence (Murray) Holt. Wendell served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Wendell married Janet Sutton on November 1, 1975 in Alma, MI. He retired as a cardiopulmonary technician from Gratiot Community Hospital in 1996 after 20+ years of service. He lived in Chicago, IL before moving to Alma, MI. Wendell enjoyed reading about WWII history and about the holocaust. He also enjoyed writing short stories and commenting on letters to the editor. Wendell liked to debate issues at family gatherings. In his spare time, he liked fishing and walking the dog. Wendell attended Seville Community Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Janet Holt of Elwell, MI, daughter Heather and Ken Kelly of Walker, MI, son Ethan and Jasmine Holt of Colorado Springs, CO, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Wendell was preceded in death by his parents, half brother Bill Holt, half sister Christine Robblie, sister Martha Jane Hunt, brother Robert Holt and cousin Helen Patricia Dawson.
