Wilbur Shaw

Wilbur A. “Bill” Shaw, age 94, of Ithaca, MI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on October 6, 2018 at Ashley Care Center, surrounded by his family.

Wilbur was born in Gratiot County, Michigan on August 10, 1924, the son of Fred and Rosa (Dayringer) Shaw. He graduated from Ithaca High School in 1940. He married Verla Naffziger in 1949, and celebrated 69 years of marriage together.

Wilbur was a lifelong farmer who loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He enjoyed wintering in Florida for 42 years. Wilbur and Verla formerly attended the North Star Church of the Nazarene for 50 years where he also taught Sunday school, was superintendent and on the church board. They were currently attending the Ithaca Church of God.

He is survived by his wife Verla Shaw of Ithaca, MI; son Rodney Bill (Hilda) Shaw of Elwell, MI; daughter Connie Sue (Jack) Kern of Ashley, MI; 4 grandchildren: Anthony (Marissa) Shaw of Byron Center, MI; Jeremy (Krysta) Kern of Oviedo, FL;  Eric Kern of Wesley Chapel, FL; and Angela (Matt) Baerwalde of Cape Coral, FL.  He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother: Raymond (Bernetta) Shaw.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI, at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018, with Pastor Tom Whitesel officiating. Burial will take place at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 9, 2018 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Ithaca, MI.
