William G. Brewer, age 85, of Rosebush, MI, formerly of St. Louis, MI died Friday, January 27th, 2012 in Clare County, Michigan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Louis, MI, on Wednesday, February 1st at 11:00 A.M. Entombment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery St. Louis, MI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis chapel.
William was born in West Branch, Michigan on February 21, 1926, the son of Clifford and Mary Wilimena (Gorman) Brewer. He was a graduate of St. Louis High School with the class of 1944. He married Phyllis Elaine Himes Brewer on June 20, 1950. She passed away September 14, 1983. He then married Beverly Carson in April 20, 1985, and she preceded him in death on July 5, 2010. Bill resided most of his life in St. Louis. He was the owner of Brewers Meat Market in St. Louis until 1968 and retired from D & M Foodland in Mt. Pleasant in 1988. Bill was an avid golfer, enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and loved his time at Higgins Lake with his family. Bill served in the US Navy on the USS Sirona during WWII and was present when the peace treaty was signed in Tokyo Bay. He enjoyed worldwide traveling, and had been to every continent besides Antarctica. He was also a lifelong member of the American Legion Post #256 in St. Louis, the Alma Knights of Coumbus Council #2966, a member of St. Henry Catholic Church Rosebush, MI, and a former member of Mt. St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Louis.
He is survived by his daughter Barbara and Tom Guimond of Clare, MI; son Brian and Lori Brewer of Chiriqui, Panama; grandchildren Lisa and Dameon Holmes of Caledonia, MI. Eric and Stephanie Guimond of Novi, MI; 1 great grandchild Hannah Holmes; stepchildren John Carson of Woodbury, MN; Jacqueline and Len Jackson of Mt. Pleasant, MI; Bruce Carson of Lakeview, MI; several step grandchildren; sister Virjean Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, MI; sister Betty Richardson of Alma, MI; sister in law Agnes Brewer of Midland, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 spouses, and a brother Gorman Brewer.
