William Glen Cheney, age 87, of Ithaca, MI died Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Sparrow Health Systems in Lansing, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Ithaca United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at 2:00 P.M., Rev. David McBride will officiate. Burial will take place at New Haven Township Cemetery, Gratiot County, MI. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 7, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, and also for one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
Glen was born in Ithaca, Michigan on April 29, 1923, the son of Reuben Byron and Sylvia Electa (Halsey) Cheney. He graduated from Ithaca High School with the class of 1941. Glen married Marjory Rose Stenke on January 8, 1949 in Alto, MI. She passed away on December 20, 2005. As a lifelong resident of Ithaca, he began farming at the age of nine, after his father's passing. Glen also served as the Newark Township Supervisor for over 30 years, and he and Marge enjoyed traveling to the Newarks of the World Reunions. He was a past commodore for the Crystal Sailing Club, and enjoyed sailing his Hobie Cat. He also enjoyed finding and collecting Native American artifacts and unique stones. He was a member of Ithaca United Methodist Church
He is survived by son Alan and Ruth Cheney of Eagle, MI, daughter Diane Chineduh of Ithaca, MI, son Ron and Brooke Cheney of Woodland, MI, son Paul Cheney of Lansing, MI, 8 grandchildren; Chris Chineduh and Amy Baldwin, Sylvia Chineduh, Reuben Cheney and Jamie Murphy, Joshua and Danielle Cheney, Amanda Cheney and Greg Harter, Cheyenne and Tyler Werner, Casey Cheney and fiancAC.e Amanda Bigney, Melanie Cheney and Joe Norris, 3 great grandchildren; Dominic Chineduh, Bernard Williams IV, and Elsa Cheney, and a brother Carl and Betty Cheney of Ludington, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Marjory, great grandson Bernard III sisters; Laura Johnson and Eleanor Fowler, brother Ralph, nieces; Margaret and Jane, and nephew Roger.
