William Hartman Jr.

William Lee Hartman Jr. age 71, of Ovid, MI, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2016, at Hospice House of Mid Michigan, Lansing, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes - Houghton Chapel, Ovid, MI, on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11:00 A.M., with Pastor Judy Hazel officiating.  Burial will take place at Duplain Township Cemetery, St. Johns, MI.  Visitation will be held on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 3-7 P.M. at the funeral home.

William was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 1, 1945, the son of William and Margaret (Peffer) Hartman.  He graduated from Hazel Park High School, and went on to attend Wayne State University receiving his bachelor’s degree in economics.  Bill married Cheryl Watson on May 15, 1976 in Oscoda County, MI.

Bill worked for the board of commissioners in many counties he had lived in, including Wayne, Oscoda, and Gratiot Counties. Most recently he owned and operated ECM and Smith Janitorial, Owosso, MI.

Bill enjoyed jig saw puzzles, cross word puzzles, sudoku, cooking and traveling.  He spent 11 years coaching little league baseball. He was a member and past Master of the Ovid & St. Johns Masonic Lodge, as well as a member of the Masonic Consistory of Bay City, MI and of Shepardsville United Methodist Church.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Hartman, of Ovid, MI, sons; William Lee III and Jessica Hartman of Davison, MI, Lynn and Amber Hartman of Escanaba, MI, and grandchildren; William IV,  Benjamin, Dahlia, Graham and Poppy.  Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
