Wilma M. Housel, age 93, of Durand, MI died Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center in Durand, MI.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel, St. Louis, MI on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Phil Maxwell officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Alma, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM. at the funeral home.
Wilma was born in Arcadia, Michigan on August 17, 1919, the daughter of William C. and Bernice (Baney) Hammond. She married Lawrence E. Housel at the Gratiot County Fair in Ithaca, MI on August 16, 1936. He passed away in 1989. She and Lawrence owned and operated Housels Nursery for many years. Wilma also worked at Gratiot County FIA for the Green Thumb Program. She enjoyed ceramics, sewing, crocheting, and making jewelry. She was also a fantastic cook, and a very generous person. She was a member of First Baptist Church in St. Louis, MI.
She is survived by son DuWayne and Viola Housel of Indian River, MI, daughter Norma and George Merry of Lennon, MI, 6 grandchildren; Douglas Housel of Germany, Dale Warner of Bel Aire, MD, Scott and Kimberly Bowen of Swartz Creek, MI, Valerie and Bill Hennessey of Colorado Springs, CO, Dianna and Michael Hein of Corunna, MI, Monica and Stephen Frank of Paradise, PA, great grandchildren; Joshua and Tina Schriner of Flint, MI, Brittany Borden, Alyssa, Tyler, Cody, and Mariah Bowen of Flint, MI, Walker and Taylor Drury of Swartz Creek, MI, Hannah, Emily, and Jeremiah Hein of Corunna, MI, Stephen E. Frank Jr. of Paradise, PA, Michael, Tim, Lisa, and Brianna Warner of Bellaire, MD, Angela and Zoli Laczko of Chicago, IL, Jennifer Housel of Flint, MI, Billy and David Hennessey of Colorado Springs, CO, Kristen and Michael Riley of Colorado Springs, CO, Gabriel and Benjamin Housel of Germany, great great grandchildren; Aiden and Ethan Shriner of Flint, MI, Audrey Borden of Swartz Creek, MI, Molly and Michael Riley of Colorado Springs, CO, Kaylee Warner or Bellaire, MD, and several step children, step grandchildren, and step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a brother.
