Zana M. Thayer age 86 of St. Louis, Michigan died on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at Schnepp Health Care Center St. Louis, Michigan.
Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at 11:00 AM. will officiate and burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery St. Louis, Michigan. Visitation will be Friday, October 28, 2005 from 2-8 P.M. at the funeral home.
Zana was born in Clare, Michigan on March 3, 1919 the daughter of William A. and Ivah L. ( Johnson ) Hendrie. Zana married Raymond Thayer on August 20, 1938 in Isabella County. Raymond died July 16, 2001. She was a homemaker. Zana and Raymond moved to St. Louis in 1941 where Raymond bought and operated Thayer's Drug Store. Zana and Raymond spent many winters in Florida, pulling a travel trailer behind their Chrysler car. They also enjoyed summers at their cottage on Southerland Lake that included daily walks, enjoying the peaceful area, traveling the lake in their paddle boat and visiting with neighbors and friends. Zana was an avid bowler and bowled on a team for many years. She crocheted afghans and made many of which most were given away. She was an excellent cook, and when a meal was prepared, there were too many dishes to choose from. Her boiled dinners and especially her cinnamon rolls will never be forgotten.
Survivors include her 4 sons; Donald R. & Betty (Adams) Thayer of Midland, Michigan, James E. Thayer & special friend Jeanette Wolgast of Breckenridge, Michigan, Dennis L. & Carole (Nickerson) Thayer of Mason, Michigan, William J. & Ann (Downey) Thayer of Harrison, Michigan, 7 grandchildren; Deborah & John Norman, Dean & Beth Thayer, Darren & Alicia Thayer, Kimberly & Vance Sandel, Kelby & Marcelle Thayer, Christopher & Rachel Thayer, Rachel Thayer, 11 great grandchildren, 1 sister , Alvena Ertel of Tennessee. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, and sister Claribell Kroeger.
Memorials may be made to Alma - St. Louis Senior Citizens Center. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.
